3233775 - E2010 SIDE LIGHTS / NO. PLATE LIGHTS - Description ( Xenon Gas headlamps)

Description

The side lights are switched on when the ring nut on the steering column is turned to the first position, with the ignition in the ON position. They can also be turned on by extracting the key and turning it in the opposite direction - PARK position - keeping the special button pressed.Turning on the side lights also turns on the number plate lights and numerous other interior lights for passenger compartment lighting and instrument & control lighting (these lines are described and illustrated in the diagrams for the components to which they refer). The circuit is protected by two fuses, one for the right-hand lights, one for the left-hand lights.A warning light on the panel (rev counter module) signals that the side lights have been switched on.The 'Follow me home' function is designed to keep the dipped headlamps and the side lights on after the engine has been switched off (key in OFF and/or PARK) for a time of 30 seconds or multiples thereof.Keeping the dipped headlamps on is signalled by the side lights warning light. The funciton is switched on by operating the flasher lever within 2 minutes: each time the lever is operated the time the lights remain on increases by 30 seconds up to a maximum of 210 secs.Operating the flasher lever for longer than 2 seconds switches the function off; the function is also switched off if the ignition key is turned to the ON position. The correct operation of the side lights and the number plate lights is controlled by the check device for the exterior lights located inside the rev counter module.

The following faults may occur:

  • blown bulb
  • bulb s.c. to earth or positive
A special failure warning light, also in the rev counter module, comes on for all other faults in the various circuits. This warning light comes on for about 4 seconds when the ignition key is turned to MAR, to indicate it is working properly, then it goes off.
