Functional description

The engine control unit M10 monitors and controls the entire electronic ignition and injection system. The direct supply for the system arrives from the battery from the line for the maxifuse EFI of B5 up to 2/99 or from B99 from 2/99. The control unit M10 is supplied directly by the battery at pin 18 of connector A, via the line protected by fuse B35 up to 2/99 or from fuse F5 of the additional fuse box B98A from 2/99. The supply controlled by the ignition (15/54) reaches pin 8 of connector A, via the line protected by fuse B25 up to 2/99 or fuse F4 of the additional fuse box B98A from 2/99.

Main injection relay J10 controls the entire system: this is excited by a control signal (earth) received from pin 9 of connector A of control unit M10 and then sends power:

  • to pins 7 and 17 of connector A of the control unit, via the line protected by fuse B41 up to 2/99 or fuse F3 of the additional fuse box B98A from 2/99.;
  • to the injectors N70 , to the air flow meter K41 , to the fuel vapour recovery solenoid valve L10 , to the variable valve timing system actuator N76 and to the Lambda sensor K40 ; (all these lines are protected by fuse B40 up to 2/99 or fuse F2 of the additional fuse box B98A from 2/99).
The fuel pump relay J15 receives a supply controlled by the ignition via fuse B25 up to 2/99 or fuse F4 of the additional fuse box B98A from 2/99. It is energized by a control signal (earth) from pin 30 of connector A of control unit M10 and supplies power to fuel pump N40 , which is earthed through the inertia switch I50 , which cuts off the circuit in the case of a crash and so prevents the dangerous spilling of fuel. It also supplies power to the ignition coils A30. The engine control unit M10 receives signals from the various sensors in order to monitor all engine operating parameters. Rpm sensor K46 provides information on engine speed via a frequency signal sent to pins 22 and 32 of connector B of control unit M10 . These two signals are very low intensity and are therefore shielded. Timing sensor K47 is supplied from pin 29 of connector B of control unit M10 and sends a signal of corresponding frequency to pin 23 of control unit connector B. Engine temperature sender unit K36 receives a reference earth from pin 1 of connector B of control unit M10 and supplies a signal proportional to the coolant temperature to pin 5 of control unit connector B. The same sender unit also supplies information to the temperature gauge and warning light (  See E4023  DASHBOARD CENTRE AUXILIARY EQUIPMENT() ).
