3234005 - E3030 HEATED REAR WINDSCREEN AND DOOR MIRROR DEFROSTING - Description (Station Wagon)

Description

The rear window heater element, door mirror demister coils and the windscreen heater element absorb a considerable amount of energy. They must therefore be turned off once they have been working for a certain period of time.The demisting of the heated rear windscreen and the rear view mirrors takes place with a timer, according to the following logic.

The system is turned on with:

  • the ignition in the ON position
  • engagement signal coming from the special button, in the air conditioning/heater control panel (or from the "rapid demisting" function of the actual air conditioner).
The coils remain supplied for 20 minutes, then the power supply is cut off.

The power supply is also cut off under the following conditions:

  • ignition key in the OFF position;
  • disengagement signal from the button (or from the "rapid demisting" function);
  • after the initial 10 minutes of operation, if the battery voltage goes below 11.6 V (if the voltage goes back up above 13 V, then the supply is restored).
  • The button control always takes priority over the max. defrosting function. For example, if the rear window is activated automatically by the max. defrost function and the button is pressed, the rear window is deactivated.
  • The LED in the button stays on whilst the heated rear windscreen is activated.
This control logic is managed by the integrated services control unit on the right hand side, under the dashboard. (the climate control/heater control unit only "houses" the control button and the LED, but does not affect the activation logic in any way).The defrosting circuit is protected by a special fuse and controlled by a specific relay located in the junction box.
