Fit the tool (1a), complete with dial gauge (1b), in the housing in the spark plug for the 1st cylinder.

Fit the crankshaft rotation tool on the camshaft drive pulley.

1. Fit the crankshaft rotation tool on the counter-balance shaft belt drive pulley.

Rotate the crankshaft until the piston for cylinder no. 1 is at T.D.C. at the power stroke.1. Undo the moving tensioner nut.2. Remove the timing drive belt.

Refitting ( Removing

) 1. Loosen the bolts (1a) for the camshaft driven pulley, inlet side, using the tool (1b) for counter-torque.

2. Loosen the bolt (2a) for the camshaft driven pulley, exhaust side, using tools (2b) and (2c) for counter-torque.

Undo the bolts and remove the camshaft third cap. 1. Fit the tool (1a) in place of the camshaft caps removed and fix it tightening the bolts (1b) to the recommended torque.

Check that the camshaft cam profile matches the tool perfectly.

1. Fit the tool (1a) in place of the camshaft caps removed and fix it tightening the bolts (1b) to the recommended torque.

Fit the timing belt.

Instructions for checking condition of toothed timing drive belt:

Check that the timing belt does not show signs of loose threads or cracks.
Check for 'black dust' along the entire length of the belt, on the toothed wheels, the shields, etc.
Visually inspect the belt teeth for check for any wear of the protective outer fabric.

If one or more of the above conditions indicating excess wear is found, replace the timing drive belt.The entire length of the belt should be inspected.

1. Apply maximum tension to the timing belt using the tool.

2. Tighten the nut for the moving tensioner to the recommended torque.

Remove the engine timing adjustment templates.Fit the camshaft caps previously removed and fix them tightening the bolts to the recommended torque.
