3234649 - E6020 AIR CONDITIONING - Description (Manual Air Conditioning)

Description

The climate control system is the type where the temperature and ventilation with recirculation are manually controlled. The user can select the desired temperature within the limitations of the system.

The climate control system controls the temperature by heating or cooling the air introduced into the passenger compartment until the desired comfort level is achieved. The following parameters/functions are adjusted through manual operation:

  • Requested temperature;
  • Fan speed;
  • Distribution direction;
  • Compressor engagement;
  • Defrosting/demising function;
  • Recirculation.
The entire system can be switched OFF manually, completely deactivating the air conditioning system, using the centre knob (except for the recirculation and heated rear windscreen), insulating the passenger compartment from the outside ambient. The MAX-DEF function makes it possible to group together a collection of actions which allow both the windscreen and the rearscreen to be demisted quickly  See E3030  HEATED REAR WINDSCREEN AND DOOR MIRROR DEFROSTING . Depending on the commands received, the control unit sets the passenger compartment air intake speed by means of the fan motor and the air temperature by a mixer actuator; It also controls flow distribution via another actuator and - lastly - the interior/exterior air recirculation function via a final actuator. When required, the ECU automatically activates the cooling circuit and dehumidifies the air by operating the air conditioner compressor  See E6021  COMPRESSOR ENGAGEMENT . The control unit supply lines are protected by a fuse in the junction unit and by the fuse which protects other supplies controlled by the ignition.The fan supply lines are protected by a special maxifuse.The system will only operate when the ignition is turned ON.
