125000013 - PRECAUTIONS

There are many moving components in the engine compartment, components at high temperatures and high tension leads that could constitute a serious danger for an inexperience mechanic.

The following precautions should be scrupulously followed when carrying out maintenance operations:

  • Switch off the engine and wait for it to cool down.
  • Take care over the radiator fan. It could start working automatically depending on the temperature of the coolant.
  • Do not smoke and do not use naked flames.
  • Always have a fire extinguisher nearby.
  • Do not use the jack that comes with the vehicle to raise it and carry out checks underneath.
The jack that comes with the vehicle should only be used when changing a wheel. For any other requirements, the vehicle should be raised following specific instructions.
Take care of scarves, ties or other loose items of clothing: they could be caught up in the moving components.
In the case of checking or maintenance operations in the engine compartment, take great care not to hit your head on the edge of the raised bonnet.
Never smoke during repair operations in the engine compartment: there could be flammable gases or vapours present which present a fire hazard.
If the vehicle is used frequently for towing a trailer, the interval between services should be reduced.
Take care, when topping up, not to confuse the various types of fluid: all of them are incompatible with one another and could seriously damage the vehicle.
