125000016 - ADDITIONAL OPERATIONS

Every 1,000 km or before long journies, check and, if necessary, top up:

  • engine coolant level
  • brake/hydraulic clutch fluid level
  • power steering fluid level
  • windscreen/rearscreen and headlamp washer fluid level
  • tyre inflation pressure and condition.
Every 3000 km or before long journies, check and, if necessary, top up the engine oil.
Change the engine oil more often than indicated in the Planned Maintenance programme if the vehicle is mainly used in one of the following particularly harsh conditions:- towing a trailer or caravan- dusty roads- short, repeated journies (less than 7-8 Km) at sub-zero temperatures- engine often idling or driving for long distances at low speeds (e.g.: taxi or door to door deliveries) or long periods of inactivity.
If the vehicle is used on dusty roads then the air filter should be replaced more often than indicated in the Planned Maintenance Programme.
The variation in the degree of purity of the diesel fuel commercially available may mean that the diesel filter has to be replaced more frequently than indicated in the Planned Maintenance Programme. If the engine is not running smoothly then this is a sign that it should be replaced.
If the vehicle is used frequently in dusty climes or where there is strong pollution, it is advisable to replace the filter element more often; in particular, it should be replaced if a decrease in the air flow rate introduced into the passenger compartment is noticed.
It is advisable to check the battery charge, preferably at the beginning of the winter, to avoid the possibility of the electrolyte freezing. This check should be carried out more often if the vehicle is mainly used for short journies or if it is equipped with consumers that permanently absorb energy with the ignition off, especially if they have been fitted in the after market. If the vehicle is used in cold climates or particularly harsh conditions, it is advisable to check the battery fluid (electrolyte) level more often than recommended in the Planned Maintenance Programme.
If when the remote control button is pressed, the LED in the actual remote control gives one quick flash, then the battery should be replaced with one of the same type.
Periodically and before long journies, check the inflation pressure of each tyre, including the spare wheel. The pressure should be checked with the tyre cold.Periodically check that the depth of the tread corresponds to the minimum legal requirements. Some types of tyre are fitted with wear gauges; they should be replaced as soon as these gauges are visible on the tread.Periodically check that the tyres do not have cuts in the sides, bulges or uneven wear of the tread; if there is a problem, seek assistance from Alfa Rome Authorized Workshops. If you have a puncture, stop immediately and change the tyre so that the actual tyre, the wheel rim, the suspension and the steering are not damaged. The wheels (rims and tyres) installed at the factory are the most suitable for the specifications of the vehicle and guarantee maximum safety and comfort in all normal driving conditions. Before replacing rims or tyres fitted on the vehicle, consult the table for the permitted types.Ensure that the rim-tyre combination fitted matches the original specification.Always fit new replacement tyres and not any of dubious origin.
If the vehicle is subject to particularly heavy usage (for example, driving on roads covered in gritting salt and/or corrosive substances, unmade roads, etc.) check the covers on the driveshafts and the steering box more often as well as cleaning and lubricating the joints, hinges, door/lid closing hooks, etc.It is advisable, if (in case of emergency) lubricants and/or fluids which do not correspond exactly in terms of specification to the Factory requirements have to be used, to change the fluids and filters in the circuit involved as soon as possible.
The flexible rubber pipes in the braking system, power assisted steering system, fuel supply system, etc. should be carefully checked in accordance with the intervals in the Planned Maintenance Programme.
