Loosen the bolts retaining the timing belt moving tensioner.2. Release and remove the toothed timing drive belt.
Instructions for checking the condition of the toothed timing belt correctly:
check that the belt does not show signs of fraying or cracking;check for black powder residues (due to belt rubbing) along the length of the belt, on the toothed wheels, on the guards etc.;check the belt teeth sides to see whethe the outer protective cloth has worn.Replace the timing belt if one or more of the above indicators of excessive wear are present. .Inspect the belt along its full length.

Rotate the crankshaft through small rotations (in both directions) until the piston for cylinder no. 1 is at T.D.C. in the combustion stroke.
Take care that the last rotation of the crankshaft is in the direction of operation.
2. Carry out the initial timing of the camshafts. apply a wrench to the socket (2a) in the middle of the camshafts and turn them to align reference marks (2b) engraved on the shafts with the upper surface of the cylinder head.
The reference marks must face toward the centre of each cylinder head.
Remove caps 4 to 7 from the left cylinder head.1. Replace the removed camshaft caps with the timing templates.

Fit the timing drive belt starting from the tothed drive pulley and continuing in an anti-clockwise direction making sure that the drive branches are properly taut.1. Fit the tool (1a) and secure it using bolt (1b) for the alternator bracket and bolt (1c) for the water pump.
The tool tooth must engage against with the mobile part of the timing belt mobile tensioner.

Turn the crankshaft through two revolutions in its direction of rotation to allow the toothed timing belt to settle.1. Check that the moving reference for the timing belt tensioner coincides with the fixed reference.2. If the references are not aligned, gently release the tensioner tension by adjusting the nut on the tensioning tool until the references coincide.3. Tighten the bolts fixing the moving timing tensioner to the recommended torque.
