125000343 - INTRODUCTION - BRAKES

CONSTRUCTION SPECIFICATIONS

This braking system consits of two, independent, crossover, hydraulic circuits (that involve one front wheel and one rear wheel, for example, the right front wheel and the left rear wheel) to ensure braking on both sides of the vehicle and maintain stability if there is a problem with the braking circuit for one of the wheels. All versions are fitted with front self-ventilated brake discs. All vehicles are equipped with Bosch 5.7 A.B.S. anti-lock brakes with four active sensors and four separate channels, with an E.B.D. function (electronic brake force distribution for the front and rear wheels)    Characteristic of working principle 3340 ANTI-LOCK BRAKE SYSTEM (ABS).The basic feature of the active sensors consists of the fact that the signal is processed directly by the sensor instead of being sent to the control unit, with the immediate intervention of the system in this way.

Depending on the version, the vehicle is equipped with further electronic control systems, such as:

  • ASR, acceleration drive wheels slip limitation
  • VDC, vehicle dyniamic stability control.
The two functions are always supplied together: the VDC system always completes ASR function.
To ensure a prompt response to the action of the brake pedal, all versions have a power unit with a LUCAS 10" brake servo. The pedal assembly consists of a mounting, separated from the power unit, with the clutch and accelerator pedals in plastic (there is no clutch pedal on the Selespeed version) whilst the brake pedal remains made from steel. The handbrake is conventional with the lever and flexible cables made from steel acting on the rear brake caliper mechanism.
