Removing ( Refitting )

  • Position the vehicle on a lift.
  • Make sure that the ignition key is in the OFF position, then disconnect the battery terminal (-).

  • Open the button (1a), release the clips (1b) and remove the manual gearbox lever boot.

  • Release the handbrake boot and remove it.

  • Lift up the handbrake lever (1a) and undo the handbrake cable tensioning nut (1b).
  • Disconnect the electrical connection from the handbrake switch.

  • Disconnect the oil vapour recirculation pipe from the air intake hose.
  • Disconnect the air intake hose from the throttle casing and move it.
1. Disconnect the gear selector and engagement cables.
To disconnect the gear selection cable, press the release tabs shown in the figure and withdraw the cable.
2. Remove the retaining plates (2a) and release the gear selector and engagement cables rom the mounting bracket (2b).

  • Undo the nut fixing the gear selection and engagement cables mounting bracket to the power assisted steering box.

  • Disconnect the electrical connection for the Lambda sensor.

1Lambda sensor See K17 LAMBDA SENSOR ON POST-CATALYZER-2

  • Release the electrical wiring for the Lambda sensor from the fastenings on the underbody.

  • Loosen the collar fastening the intermediate silencer to the rear silencer.
  • Release the intermdiate silencer (2a) from the flexible mounting (2b).

  • Undo the bolt fixing the front flexible mounting bracket for the intermediate exhaust silencer.

  • Undo the nuts fixing the catalytic converter to the catalytic preconverter.

  • Undo the bolts fixing the catalytic converter flexible mounting brackets.

  • Remove the catalytic converter assembly (1a) and the intermediate silencers (1b).

  • Remove the gasket.

  • Undo the bolt (1a) and the nuts (1b) and remove the exhaust pipe heat shield (1c).

  • Disconnect the handbrake cables from the bracket.

  • Place a hydraulic jack under the mounting for the gearbox and handbrake control levers.
  • Undo the bolts (2a) and the nuts (2b) fastening the mounting for the handbrake and electro-hydraulic selection gearbox control levers.
  • Recover the shims.
  • Lower the hydraulic jack as necessary and remove the exhaust pipe side heat shields.

  • Completely lower the hydraulic jack and remove the mounting for the handbrake and gearbox control levers.

  • At the bench, undo the bolts (1a) and remove the handbrake lever assembly (1b).
1. Undo the nuts fixing the manual gearbox control lever.2. Disconnect the gear selector and engagement cables from the manual gearbox control lever.
To disconnect the gear selection and engagement cables, press the release tabs shown in the figure and retract the cables.
3. Remove the clips fastening the gear selector and engagement cables to the to the manual gearbox control lever.4. Remove the gear selector and engagement cables.5. Remove the manual gearbox control lever.

  • Place the manual gearbox control lever and the gear selection and engagement cables back in their housings.
  • Fasten gear selector and engagement cables to the to the manual gearbox control lever using the clips.
  • Connect the gear selector and engagement cables to the manual gearbox control lever.
  • Tighten the nuts fixing the manual gearbox control lever.
  • Place the handbrake lever assembly on the mounting and secure it using the bolts.
  • Place the mounting for the handbrake and gearbox control levers back in position using a hydraulic jack.
  • Place the exhaust pipe side heat shields back in their housings.
  • Tighten the bolts and the nuts complete with plates fastening the mounting for the handbrake and gearbox control levers.
  • Remove the hydraulic jack from underneath the mounting for the handbrake and gearbox control levers.
  • Connect the handbrake cables to the bracket.
  • Place the exhaust pipe heat shield back in its housing and secure it using the bolt and the nuts.
  • Place the catalytic converter complete with intermediate silencers and seal in position.
  • Tighten the bolts fixing the catalytic converter flexible mounting brackets.

  • Tighten the nuts fixing the catalytic converter to the catalytic preconverter to the recommended torque.

  • Tighten the bolt fixing the front flexible mounting bracket for the intermediate exhaust silencer.
  • Fasten the intermediate silencer to the flexible mounting.
  • Tighten the collar fastening the intermediate silencer to the rear silencer.
  • Fasten the electrical wiring for the Lambda sensor to the fastenings on the underbody.
  • Connect the electrical connection for the Lambda sensor.
  • Tighten the nut fixing the gear selection and engagement cables mounting bracket to the power assisted steering box.
  • Place the gear selection and engagement cables on the mounting bracket and fasten them using the plates.
  • Connect the gear selector and engagement cables.
  • Place the air inlet hose in position and connect it to the throttle casing.
  • Connect the oil vapour recirculation pipe to the air intake hose.
  • Connect the electrical connection to the handbrake switch.

  • Place the handbrake lever boot in position.
  • Place the manual gearbox lever boot in position.
  • Connect the negative battery terminal (-).
  • Remove the vehicle from the lift.
