If necessary to replace the elecrtric steering control device, replace the entire electric steering control device (including the intermediate shaft) unless the intermediate shaft alone is replaced. In all cases, when the intermediate shaft is removed and reinstalled, it must be removed from the vehicle together with the electric steering control device.

To prevent damage to the intermediate shaft, do not remain the main electric steering control device until the bolt has been removed and the fork connecting the steering box and intermediate shaft has been taken out.

When fitting a new part, do not turn the electric steering control device shafts until the operations are complete. All the operations should be carried out taking great care not to damage the components.Prevent brake-clutch fluid coming into contact with painted parts; If this should happen, wash immediately with water.Before any operation on the electrical equipment components, including the battery, make sure that the ignition is in the OFF position.In order to release parts which are sticking, tap gently with an aluminium or lead hammer if iron materials are involved: use a wooden or resin hammer for light alloy parts.When dismantling, check that the components have reference marks.During refitting, lubricate the parts as necessary to prevent seizure during the initial period of operation. When refitting, it is vital to follow the recommended tightening torques and adjustment data.During each refitting, replace the gaskets, oil seals, spring washers, safety plates, self-locking nuts, pre-treated bolts and all components which have deteriorated.The replacement of removed assemblies or components should be carried out using genuine spare parts only: this is the only way that the interchangeability and perfect operation of the various components can be guaranteed.Always check carefully all parts of the steering that have or may have been subject to impact (e.g. following an accident). - Replace all such parts that have been damaged orsubject to impact (note that the intermediate shaft is the only part that can be replaced individually on the electric steering control device)Check for any play or vibration in any part of the steering or steering mechanism and correct immediately.Do not use the steering if it is broken or damaged. Only use original parts to replace components and follow installation instructions carefully.Do not change the shape of any steering component when hot or cold.The outer casing of the electric steering device may reach high temperatures following repeated manoeuvres at full load (parking or repeated operations at low speed); it is advisable to check whether the device is hot before touching it.Failure to cut out ignition when servicing with the wheels raised could cause physical damage due to electrical operation of the electric steering control device.To eliminate all potential risks, the steering wheel must be locked with the wheels in the straight ahead position and the ignition key removed. If this is not possible to need to keep the key ON or engine running, remove the electric steering control device fuse before performing any other operation.
