2399181 - E2020 DIRECTION INDICATORS / HAZARD WARNING LIGHTS - Description

Description

The left and right direction indicators are operated by raising or lowering the left lever on the stalk unit. the function is activated with the ignition key in the ON position. The hazard warning lights (right and left direction indicators operated simultaneously) are turned on by the pressing a button in the centre of the dashboard between the climate control system controls and both the direction indicators come on at the same time. An LED in the back of the button also comes on flashing in synchronization with the outside lights; the function is always activated. The switching on of the direction indicators / hazard warning lights is managed by the Body Computer which also controls the flashing frequency which is sent to the other connectors via the CAN serial network. In this way, the two direction indicator warning lights in the instrument panel are also lit up; in addition, as well as the activation of the lamps, the system also produces a low frequency auditory signal.

The correct operation of the lights is controlled by the direction indicators 'check' function: the following is controlled for each of the two circuits (right branch and left side):

  • open circuit or bulb missing
  • short circuit to earth (bulb short circuit or wiring short circuit to earth)
  • short circuit to Vbatt (wiring short circuit to Vbatt)
If one of the situations described above is detected, the Body Computer notifies the CAN of the failure state: the special 'lights failure' warning light in the instrument panel comes on and, at the same time, the information is shown on the display. In addition, at the same time as the failure indication is activated, the frequency of the flashing for the visual display in the panel and the auditory signal increases; the frequency of the flashing of the exterior lights and the LED in the hazard warning lights button, on the other hand, remains unchange.
the direction indicators are also used to signal the receipt of the commands sent by the remote control and/or to signal a manoeuvre not carried out by the 'passenger compartment access' control system  See E3040  CENTRAL LOCKING .
