The side lights are switched on when the ring nut on the steering column switch unit left lever is turned to the first position. Characteristic of working principle 5050 SCREEN WASHERS AND HEADLAMP WASH/WIPEThe switching on of the side lights is managed by the Body Computer: the operation of the side lights is activated by the enablement signals with the ignition on and the command from the steering column switch unit. The activation and/or deactivation information is sent via the ACN: in this way the 'Side Lights' warning light in the instrument panel is also switched on. The instrument panel also activates the serigraphy night lighting.The 'parking lights' function is only switched on with the ignition OFF by pressing the dedicated button in the control panel to the left of the steering wheel: engagement is signalled by a 'roger beep'. By turning the left steering column switch unit lever (in the same way as for activating the direction indicators) it is possible to choose whether to switch on the side lights on both sides of the vehicle (lever in central position) or on one side only (lever downwards to select the left side, lever upwards to select the right side).DUSK SENSOR
The side lights and dipped headlamps are activated automatically, via the dusk sensor, if the AUTO function is set on the steering column switch unit.The dusk sensor is an infrared device that operates at different levels of sensitivity. When the dusk sensor is activated, a message appears on the control panel display that indicates a preset sensitivity level (from 1 to 3). This intensity may be adjusted using the 'Mode +' and 'Mode -' keys.LOCATION
The dusk sensor, integral with the rain sensor, is described below. it is located on the windscreen immediately below the rear view mirror.A - Rain/dusk sensor
B - Connection: CONNECTOR PINOUT
1- Supply controlled by ignition
2 - Earth
3 - A-BUS serial line
Follow me home
The 'Follow me home' function is designed to keep the dipped headlamps and the side lights on after the engine has been switched off (key in OFF position) for a time of 30 seconds or multiples thereof. The funciton is switched on by operating the flasher lever within 2 minutes of turning the ignition OFF: each time the lever is operated the time the lights remain on increases by 30 seconds up to a maximum of 210 secs. Turning the ignition ON or keeping the flasher lever pulled for more than 2 seconds, deactivates the function.DIPPED HEADLAMPS
The vehicle is equipped with two dipped headlamps in the light clusters.The dipped beam headlamps are switched on through the steering column switch by turning the specific ring to the position after the side lights.A special relay, managed by the Body Computer, controls the engagement of the dipped headlamps with the enablement signals with the ignition ON and the specific signal from the steering column switch unit. With the dipped headlamps on, the simultaneous presence of main beam headlamp and fog light commands disables the dipped headlamps. If one of these two commands is then deactivated, with the dipped headlamps control on, the dipped headlamps are switched back on again.MAIN BEAM HEADLAMPS
The vehicle has two main beam headlamps in the light cluster.The main beam headlamps are switched on by the steering column switch unit:
- when the dipped beam headlamps are on, by pressing the lever towards the dashboard (stable mode)
- in 'flash' mode, by pulling the lever towards the steering wheel (unstable mode)
for legal reasons, if the dusk sensor is activated, only the flasher can be activated and the main beam headlamps cannot be switched on constantly; the AUTO function must be switched off to activate these lights. |
DIRECTION INDICATORS/ HAZARD WARNING LIGHTS
The left and right direction indicators are operated by raising or lowering the left lever on the stalk unit. the function is activated with the ignition key in the ON position.The hazard warning lights (right and left direction indicators operated simultaneously) are turned on by the pressing a button in the centre of the dashboard between the climate control system controls and both the direction indicators come on at the same time. An LED in the back of the button also comes on flashing in synchronization with the outside lights; the function is always activated.The switching on of the direction indicators / hazard warning lights is managed by the Body Computer which also controls the flashing frequency which is sent to the other connectors via the CAN serial network. In this way, the two direction indicator warning lights in the instrument panel are also lit up; in addition, as well as the activation of the lights, the system also produces a low frequency auditory signal.BRAKE LIGHTS
The brake lights are located at the rear in the side lights and in the central third brake light.These are operated whenever the brake pedal is pressed, by means of a switch on the pedal itself.The switch fitted on the pedal assembly consists of two contacts which supply two signals: the first which is the 'N.A.' type recognizes the position of the brake pedal when it differs from the rest position, i.e. pedal pressed; the second, which is the 'N.C.' type, recognizes the brake pedal in the rest position.The lights are switched on by the N.A. contact (pedal pressed). The 'N.A.' switch information is sent, in particular to the engine management control unit and the ABS control unit.whilst the information for the N.C. switch assists the engine management control unit, in particular for the Cruise Control.1 - Brake switch on pedal unit

The vehicle is equipped with two reversing lights located in the rear lights.which are operated each time reverse gear is engaged through the special switch on the outside of the gearbox casing.The signal that the reversing light has been switched on is managed by the Body Computer which forwards this information to the steering column switch unit for the automatic operation of the rearscreen wiper and to the parking sensor control unitFOG LIGHTS
The vehicle has two additional fog lights in the front bumper which are activated through the dedicated button in the control panel to the left of the steering wheel. when the lights are on the warning light in the instrument panel comes on.A special relay, managed by the Body Computer, controls the engagement of the fog lights: the relay is energized by:
- enablement signal with the ignition ON
- control signal coming from the switch
- side lights on signal.
REAR FOG LAMPS
The vehicle is equipped with two bright rear fog lamps located in the rear light clusters activated using the special button in the control panel to the left of the steering wheel; when the lights are on the warning light in the instrument panel comes on.The switching on of the rear fog lamp is managed by the Body Computer: it is activated in the following conditions:
- enablement signal with the ignition ON (INT);
- control signal coming from the switch;
- dipped headlamps or fog lights on signal.
lights check
The correct operation of the following lights:
- side and no. plate lights
- direction indicators
- side brake lights
- rear fog lamps: is controlled by the Body Computer lights check function.
The following is checked for each of the circuits:
- open circuit or missing bulb
- short circuit to earth (bulb short circuit or wiring short circuit to earth)
- short circuit to Vbatt (wiring short circuit to Vbatt)
HEADLAMP AGLINMENT CORRECTOR
The headlamp beam orientation in accordance with the load is adjusted via the adjustment device located directly in the headlamps; it tilts them as appropriate in order to lower the light beam if the vehicle is particularly laden, and raises it when the load decreases. The device is enabled only when the dipped beam headlamps are on.Two buttons, located on the control panel to the left of the steering wheel, allow the adjustment of the headlamps in 4 vertical positions ranging from 0 to 3:
- position 0: one or two persons on the front seats, full fuel tank, car fully equipped and in running order;
- position 1: five persons;
- position 2 - five persons with luggage compartment full (about 50 kg);
- position 3 - driver and 300 kg load, all stowed in boot (full load).
