3308469 - 1072D modular inlet manifold (v.i.s.)

It is an inlet manifold of modular length managed by the fuel injection control unit; it allows the volumetric efficiency to be increased, and so:

  • optimizes delivery of torque at low/medium engine speeds
  • increases power at high engine speeds.

The manifold consists of:

  • two nylon half shells
  • an internal oscillating pipe
  • a vacuum accumulator inside the manifold
  • an actuator controlling the modular intake device, with built-in three-way solenoid.
The replacement of the air chamber or the butterfly casing integrated with M.D.S. or the injection control unit means that the self-learning procedure has to be carried out (see "PROCEDURES FOR REPAIRS - op.   1056B81  run electronic ignition/injection control unit (single) self-learning procedure ).

Operation

The fuel injection control unit controls the three-way solenoid (1) which places the vacuum accumulator (2) in communication with the pneumatic actuator (3), which in turn, via a linkage, allows the oscillating pipe (4) to move.

The rotation of the rocker duct allows the manifolds to assume the following configurations:

  • shorter power ducts at speeds above 4960 rpm
longer torque ducts at speeds between idling and 4960 rpm.

MODULAR INLET MANIFOLD SOLENOID VALVE

This is a two-way solenoid valve built into the pneumatic actuator which controls the variable geometry chamber and is controlled by the injection control unit. Its function is to allow the vacuum present in the vacuum tank (inside the inlet box) to act on the pneumatic actuator which controls the oscillating pipe.
