3315760 - E7030 AIRBAG - Functional description (Air Bag laterale)
Functional description
The airbag system control unit
M60
is supplied with power when the ignition switch is turned on (INT/A)
at pin 5 by a line protected by fuse
F2
in junction unit
B1
.
Pin 6 is connected to the specific earth
C50
.
When frontal impact of a certain
severity (depending on the software setting) is detected, the control
unit sends control signals to set off the modules:
- to driver's airbag Q9 , through a clockspring on
the steering wheel Q10 (from pins 11 and 10):
- to the passenger airbag Q11 (from pins 13 and
14);
- to the pretensioners on the driver's side Q20 (from
pins 1 and 2) and the passenger side Q21 (from pins 3 and
4).
Pins 15 and 37 are connected to a sensor
in the seat for disablement of the passenger airbag
K65
.
Pins 25 and 12 are connected to the passenger airbag disablement
switch
H75
.
Side impact detection sensors
K66
(driver's
side) and
K67
(passenger side) send signals to pins 20,
22 and 21, 23 respectively of control unit
M60
. The two
side sensors are connected to earth
C50.When side impact of a certain severity
(dependent on the software setting) is detected, the control unit
sends control signals to set off the modules:
- to driver's sidebag Q30 (from pins 16 and 17):
- to the passenger side Air Bag Q31 (from pins 18
and 19);
When the system self-diagnostic function
reveals a fault or an impact is detected, pin 40 of control unit
M60
sends a signal to the airbag fault warning light located on control panel
E50
. - pin 9 of connector C.
Pin 33 of
M60
sends a signal to
the passenger sidebag disablement warning light, again located on
instrument panel
E50
- pin 16 of connector C.
These signals are earthed and turn on the
warning lights since instrument
E50
is ignition-activated
(INT/A) - pin 15 of connector A - from a line protected by fuse
F1
of junction unit
B1
.
Both warning lights are of the type known
as 'smart' warning lights because an inner control circuit causes
the warning light to light up even if the connection is broken or
if the circuit connecting warning light and control unit is short-circuited
to earth.
Self-diagnostic data may be read by connecting
the unit to connector
R10
: this receives signals from pin
9 of control unit
M60
through the appropriate tester line.
