3315474 - Introduction - ENGINE (Automatic transmission)

6 cylinder engine in a 60° V formation, 1996 c.c., static advance, with one camshaft for each cylinder head (directly operated for the inlet valves and through rods and rocker arms for the exhaust valves), 2 valves per cylinder, supercharged with a turbocharger and intercooler and a Bosch Motronic ME2.1 integrated injection/ignition sytem.

DESCRIPTION

General characteristics

The unit comprises the engine and all the systems required for its operation:

  • fuel supply system;
  • air supercharing system;
  • exhaust system;
  • emission control system
  • cooling system
The operation of these systems is optimized by an electronic control system governed by a control unit. An understanding of the operating logic of the control unit gives an overall picture of the entire GROUP 10 system (  See subassembly 1056   PETROL INJECTION SYSTEM ).

Fuel supply system

There is a fuel supply and return circuit with an electric pump immersed in the tank with a drip tray which also contains the fuel gauge and he filter (for further details  See subassembly 1040   FUEL TANK AND PIPES ).

Air supercharging system

The air supercharging system with a turbocharger and the control of the supercharging pressure is taken care of by the injection control unit through the Pierburg solenoid valve. (for further details  See subassembly 1048   ENGINE AIR SUPPLY CIRCUIT and  See subassembly 1064   ENGINE TURBOCHARGING SYSTEM ).

Exhaust system

The exhaust system is fitted with a three-way catalytic converter and Lambda sensor (for further details  See subassembly 1076   EXHAUST PIPES AND SILENCERS ).

Emission control system

The following emission control systems have been adopted on this system:

  • exhaust emission control system with a three-way catalytic converter and Lambda sensor;
  • crankcase vapour/gas recirculation system;
  • fuel anti-evaporation system;
(for further details  See subassembly 1080   EXHAUST EMISSION CONTROL SYSTEM ).

Cooling system

Forced circulation with a centrifugal vane pump (for further details  See subassembly 1088   ENGINE COOLING ).
