3308473 - 1080D crankcase vapour/gas recirculation system (Automatic transmission)

OPERATION

The oil vapour emissions are controlled by means of a separator (1) which collects the vapours from the right cylinder head using a pipe (2).The difference in temperature between the separator and the oil vapours causes partial condensation. The condensed vapours are sent to the cylinder head through the pipe (3).

The uncondensed vapours are drawn in:

  • by the chamber via the pipe (4), with the engine "naturally aspirated" with the single-acting valve (5) open and the opening of the PCV (Positive Crank Ventilation) valve depending on the vacuum in the chamber.
  • by the turbocharger air intake hose via the pipe (6), together with the fuel vapours, with the engine "supercharged", with the single-acting valve (5) closed.

PCV (POSITIVE CRANK VENTILATION) VALVE

The function of this valve is to restrict the intake of oil vapours into the air chamber. The PCV valve can be modulated and the quantity of gases which pass through is inversely proportional to the vacuum in the inlet chamber.
