All the operations must be carried out with the utmost attention and care to avoid personal injury.

The engine compartment contains many moving parts, components at high temperature and live electrical cables.Closely observe the following precautions when carrying out operations in the engine compartment:

  • Turn off the engine and wait for it to cool down.
  • Do not smoke.
  • Do not use naked flames.
  • Make sure that there is an extinguisher at hand.
For some procedures, the use of special Alfa Romeo tools is indicated.The use of these tools is essential in order to work in safety.Observe the current safety regulations concerning working in workshops.If necessary, the Manual indicates cases where special attention is required to avoid dangerous situations occurring.When using chemicals, closely follow the safety instructions given on the safety sheet which the supplier must give to the user (in Italy, in accordance with D.M. no. 47/1992).

WARNINGS

All the operations must be carried out with the utmost attention and care to avoid damaging the components.Avoid brake-clutch fluid coming into contact with paintwork; if it does, wash immediately with water.Do not reuse brake-clutch fluid drained during bleeding.Before any interventions on electrical components, including battery disconnection, make sure that the ignition is off ("STOP" position).To release parts which are firmly stuck together, tap lightly using an aluminium or lead hammer for ferrous materials, or a wood or resin hammer for light alloy parts.During dismantling, check that parts which have to be marked carry the reference marks.During refitting, lubricate the parts as necessary to prevent seizures during the initial period of operation.During refitting, it is essential to observe the tightening torques and adjustment data.During refitting operations, replace gaskets, oil seals, spring washers, safety plates, self-locking nuts and any worn parts.
