GEAR SELECTOR LEVER

These are the gear selector lever positions:

  • P, park
  • R, reverse
  • N, neutral
  • D, drive (totally automatic gear change).
The information concerning the gear lever position (P - R - N - D) is supplied to the control unit by a sensor fitted on the outside of the gearbox casing. The control unit, in turn, sends a coded (PWM) signal to the instrument panel via a dedicated serial line. The corresponding position of the lever and the management mode (auto/manual) is shown on an LCD.
There are no positions 1, 2 and 3 on this model.
From position D it is possible to change:to sports management automaticallyto manual gear change management. For automatic sports management, the selector lever has to be moved left of position D.The first time the selector lever is moved towards (+) or towards (-), the system moves to manual gear change management.
There are three switches under the selector lever which allow the CAE control unit to identify the change from totally automatic gear change management to manual management.l
Position P can be selected using the lever with the vehicle stationary. The various lever positions are lit up by two different coloured LED diodes. The basic background colour is green, except for the lever position selected which is shown in amber.

The selector lever can be moved from position P (shift-lock) with the:

  • ignition key in the ON position
  • brake pedal depressed
  • selector lever button pressed.
Under these circumstances, the selector lever electro-magnet is energized and allows the movement of the lever.

If the key is removed from the ignition (key-lock) it is possible with the:

  • ignition in the OFF position
  • selector lever in position P.
Under these circumstances, the steering lock electro-magnet is energized and allows the key to be removed.
