3315500 - Introduction - ELECTRICAL EQUIPMENT

DESCRIPTION

The are numerous innovations in the electrical equipment both as far as the vehicle wiring and the various electrical consumers and systems are concerned.

Electrical circuits

The electrical system has been designed with the safety of the vehicle uppermost, to prevent the risk of fire and the other consequences of electrical malfunctions and to reduce defective connections thanks to the adoption of the latest generation connectors.

The main solutions adopted are:

  • supplies protected by maxi fuses to interrupt the electrical system, in the case of a short circuit, just downstream of the battery;
  • the only cables without maxi fuses (starter motor and alternator) are protected and positioned in a safe place;
  • the layout of the entire system is designed to optimize the risk of damage in the case of a failure or accident;
  • there are special cables in the engine compartment which are resistant to high temperatures and also protected with outer casings or pipes;
  • the connections are fitted with anti-slip devices on the terminals (secondary lock).

Junction units

This vehicle is equiped with two junction units: a main one located underneath the dashboard to the left of the steering column and an auxiliary one located in the engine compartment.

Integrated multiservice control unit

The integrated multiserve control unit (1) is located beneath the driver's side facia trim. It manages the following functions in integrated manner:

  • side lights
  • number plate lights
  • parking lights
  • vehicle brake lights
  • rear fog lamps
  • fog lights
  • dipped headlamps relay
  • dim dip headlamps relay feed
  • warning lights in the control panel
  • heated rear windscreen timer

Xenon headlamps

As an option, the front light clusters are available with xenon dipped headlamps with a dynamic alignment control system.This type of lighting used for the dipped headlamps has a bulb containing xenon gas.

Control panel

The control panel, which is in one piece, includes the following instruments:

  • speedometer
  • rev counter
  • fuel gauge with reserve warning light
  • engine coolant temperature gauge and warning light
  • LCD for twin milometer/trip meter function
  • LCD for gear selector and programme activated functions (only for versions with automatic transmission)
  • series of warning lights for signal functions
  • door and boot check
  • check request button
  • trip meter zero button

Cruise control (only for 2.5 v6 - 3.0 v6 - 2.0 tb - 2.4 jtd)

This is an electronic system managed by the injection control unit which allows a cruising speed set by the driver to be automatically maintained.

The control unit controls the speed through:

  • the motorized butterfly for the 2.5 V6 - 3.0 V6 - 2.0 TB versions
  • the control of the fuel injected for the 2.4 JTD version.
The Cruise Control control lever is integrated in the steering column switch unit direction indicator control lever.

Air bag system

The vehicle is equipped with an Air Bag system and seat belts with electronically controlled pretensioners which can have:

  • "4 charges" (fitted as standard)
  • "6 charges" (optional).
In the case of a frontal impact of a certain magnitude, the system with 4 charges activates the front seat belt pretensioners and the Air Bags.In the case of a side impact of a certain magnitude, the system with 6 charges activates the Side Bags as well.The passenger Air Bag can be manually deactivated through a special switch.

A sensor in the seat automatically deactivates:

  • the passenger Air Bag
  • the passenger pretensioner
  • the passenger Side Bag (where fitted).

Anti-theft device

The vehicle is equipped with an ALFA ROMEO CODE immobilizer system for protection against theft.A volumetric and perimeter type vehicle protection system is available on request.
For more information on the Group 55 systems, see the descriptions of the individual sub-assemblies/assemblies.
