INTEGRATED MULTISERVICE CONTROL UNIT

General description

The integrated multiserve control unit (1) is located beneath the driver's side facia trim. It manages the following functions in integrated manner:

  • side lights (2)
  • number plate lights (3)
  • parking lights
  • brake lights (stop) (4)
  • rear fog lamps (5)
  • fog lights (6)
  • dipped headlamps relay (7)
  • dim dip headlamps relay feed
  • warning lights in control panel (side lights, fog lights, rear fog lamp, heated rear window, heated windscreen and handbrake) (8)
  • heated rear windscreen timer (9).

The integrated multiservice control unit is fitted with a microprocessor and static electronic components which have the task of:

  • receiving the signal for operating the switches/remote control switches
  • activating the consumers (bulbs)
  • carrying out the fault diagnosis and transmitting it.
Each input is protected by filters against electrostatic discharge or radio signals. The exterior lights are activated by semiconductor switches which simultaneously check and control the function.Faults in the above mentioned bulbs are signalled to the control panel via a dedicated line.

The integrated multiservice control unit comes on when the following conditions exist:

  • ignition key in ON position
  • parking lights go ahead.
If neither of these conditions are met, the control unit is deactivated and the stand-by mode is engaged.Side lights and number plate lights

The side lights are enabled if the following conditions exist:

  • ignition key in ON position
  • side lights switch activated.
The control unit sends a signal to turn on a side light warning light located on the control panel.Parking lights.

The parking lights are enabled if the following conditions exist:

  • no signal for key in ON POSITION
  • parking lights switch activated.

The side lights are used as parking lights:

  • both parking lights come on, the warning light in the control panel is on and the number plate light is on when the parking light switch is turned on
  • the left parking light is on when the parking light switch and the left direction indicator are turned on
  • the right parking light comes on when the parking light switch and the right direction indicator are turned on.
Car brake lights

The brake lights are enabled if the following conditions exist:

  • ignition key in ON position
  • switch on brake pedal activated.
The vehicle brake lights system is controlled by the integrated multiservice control unit.Rear fog lamps

The rear fog lamps are enabled if the following conditions exist:

  • ignition key in ON position
  • rear fog lamps button activated.
  • dipped headlamps or fog lights activted signal.
The control unit sends a signal to turn on the rear fog lamp warning light located on the control panel. If there is a change to the lights (dipped headlamps, main beam headlamps, fog light), the rear fog lamps should not go out.

The rear fog lamps should be deactivated if:

  • they are deactivated via the rear fog lamps button
  • there is no ignition ON signal
  • there is no dipped headlamps/main beam headlamps/fog lights on signal.
Fog lights

The fog lights relay feed is activated if the following conditions exist:

  • ignition key in ON position
  • side lights switch activated
  • fog lights button activated.
The control unit sends a signal which lights up the fog lights warning light in the control panel.Dipped beam headlamps

The dipped beam headlamps relay feed is activated if the following conditions exist:

  • ignition key in ON position
  • dipped headlamps/main beam headlamps switch activated.
The dipped headlamps warning light in the control panel is operated by the dipped headlamps relay.Handbrake warning light

The handbrake warning light is activated if the following conditions exist:

  • ignition key in ON position
  • switch on handbrake lever activated.
Under these conditions, the handbrake warning light in the control panel should flash at a rate of 1.5 Hz with a 50% duty cycle.Heated rear windscreen timer

The heated rear windscreen timer relay is activated when the following conditions exist:

  • ignition key in ON position
  • heated rear windscreen timer button activated.
Activation only occurs when the switch is released to prevent the heated rear windscreen being on constantly if there is a short circuit in the integrated multiservice control unit input.

The integrated multiservice control unit output which controls the heated rear windscreen can be deactivated:

  • manually, by pressing the control switch or if there is no ignition ON signal
  • automatically, after 60 minutes of actual heated rear windscreen operation.

The automatic operation of the heated rear windscreen is basically connected to the:

  • engine rpm signal
  • battery voltage
  • logic for switching the heated rear windscreen on/off
  • control panel go ahead.

The logic for switching the heated rear windscreen on/off is as follows:

  • for the first 10 minutes the operation does not depend on the engine speed
  • once this time is exceeded, if rpm level is lower than 1000 rpm, the rear window element must be disconnected after an interval of 10 seconds. If rpm exceeds 1000 rpm for at least 10 seconds, the rear window element comes on, or stays on if already active, until it has effectively been operating for 60 minutes.
During the entire automatic operating range, the heated rear windscreen relay should be switched off when the battery voltage goes below 8.,5 V for 150 msec. The engagement of the heated rear windscreen turns on the warning light in the control panel which remains on constantly for a maximum of 60 minutes during the automatic operation. The warning light goes off only if the heated rear window is disconnected manually.Preparation for tow hook

The preparation for the two hook consists of:

  • vehicle brake lights
  • rear fog lamps
  • side lights and parking lights for all side lights.
The above outlets are activated to earth when the relevant functions are switched on by the user.Fault diagnosis
