3308553 - 5580A cruise control system (Automatic transmission)
DESCRIPTION
This is an electronic system managed by the ME2.1 injection control unit which makes it possible to automatically maintain a cruising speed set by the driver. The control unit implements the speed control via the motorized butterfly. The cruise control control is integrated in the direction indicators control lever in the steering column switch unit. The control consists of:
- a ring nut switch (1)
- a SET ring nut (2) with a memorizing function, speed increase (set +) and speed decrease (set -)
- a RECALL button (3) for the speed memorized.
DESCRIPTION
To activate the cruise control:
- turn the ring nut switch to the ON position
- set the desired speed (> 30 kph)
- turn the SET ring nut towards the (+) or (-) sign
- release the accelerator pedal.
The cruise control does not operate:
- in 1st gear or reverse where there is a manual gearbox
- in P, N or R where there is automatic transmission
- below 30 kph.
For safety reasons, the A.S.R. (Anti-Slip Regulation) function has priority over the cruise control. |

2, Cruise control control lever
3, Clutch pedal switch
4, Brake pedal switch
5, Accelerator pedal potentiometer
6, Motorized butterfly casing
7, Cruise control warning light
8, CAE automatic transmission control unit (where fitted)
9, Automatic transmission selector lever position switch (where
fitted)
Manual disengagement of cruise control
The driver can disable the cruise control by:
- the turning the switch to the OFF position
- switching off the engine
- operating the brake or clutch pedal (the last speed is memorized and can be recalled by pressing the RECALL button)
- operating the automatic gear selector lever in position P, N, R (the last speed is memorized and can be recalled by pressing the RECALL button)
- vehicle speed below 30 kph (the last butterfly angle remains memorized and the speed can be recalled by pressing the RECALL button)
- operating the accelerator pedal
In this case, the cruise control remains on, but the management of the accelerator pedal is allowed. |
Automatic disengagement of the cruise control
The system automatically switches off the cruise control if there is:
- acceleration due to a steep descent
- deceleration due to a steep incline
- operation of the gear selector lever without using the clutch.
The system automatically switches the cruise control off in the following failure conditions:
- sensor signal failure which implies the desire of the driver to alter the driving conditions:
- accelerator pedal potentiometer
- clutch switch
- brake switch
- brake lights switch
- cruise control RECALL button
- cruise control SET ring nut
- failure with the other system sensors or components:
- injection/ignition control unit
- engine rpm sensor
- vehicle speed
- automatic transmission selector lever position (where fitted)
- a failure in the control system or the components which lead to an engine malfunction:
- turbocharger sensors/actuators (where fitted)
- motorized butterfly casing
- air flow meter
- engine ignition
- injectors
