3310025 - E7022 VDC - Description

Description

The VDC is an electronic system for controlling vehicle stability which intervenes on the drive torque and brakes the wheels in a differentiated manner, if there is a loss of grip, thus helping to return the car to its correct trajectory.The VDC system is activated automatically when the car is started and cannot be switched off, unlike the ASR/TCS system which can be disabled by pressing the specific button located on the central console.

The basic components of the VDC system are:

  • an electronic control unit (same as for the ABS) which processes the signals received from the various sensors and implements the most appropriate strategy;
  • a sensor which detects the steering wheel position;
  • four sensors which detect the speed of rotation of each wheel (shared with the ABS);
  • a sensor which detects the vehicle's rotation around the vertical axis;
  • a sensor which detects lateral acceleration (centrifugal force);
  • a pump with pressure switch for maintaining the brake fluid under pressure.
The system is protected by specific maxifuses, contained in the engine bay.When the ignition is turned on, the warning light on the instrument panel comes on and should go out after about 4 seconds.If the warning light flashes during driving, this means that the VDC system has intervened.
