Removing ( Refitting ) Place the car with the wheels perfectly straight and the steering wheel centralised. - 5580C18  air bag module - r+r
Closely observe the safety regulations established for this operation.
1. Undo the bolts fixing the steering column case halves.2. Release clock spring for the Air Bag systemfrom the lower casing 3. Remove the steering column half case.
1. Undo bolts (1a), remove plastic pin (1b) and remove the under-facia lining driver side (1c).
Undo the nut and open the fuse access flap. 1. Undo bolt (1a) retaining cable link (1b), then remove the fuse access flap (1c).
1. Release the clutch pedal switch from its housing.
1. Undo the bolt (1a) and disconnect the steering control shaft (1b) from the power assisted steering box pinion.
The bolt is pretreated and cannot therefore be refitted.
1. Disconnect the electrical conection for the Air bag system coiled lead.

2. Remove the rubber protector (2a) and undo the steering wheel nut (2b).
1. Remove steering wheel (1a) using tool (1b).
Do not use a hammer or other similar tools to remove the steering wheel, as these would remove the steering column retaining washer and cause play.

1. Disconnect the steering column electrical connection.

1. Undo the bolts (1a) and remove the complete steering column (1b)2. Undo the bolt securing the trim on the support with steering shafts.
1. Release the aerial for the electronic key from band.2. Release the electronic key aerial from the ignition switch block.
1. Disconnect the electrical connections for the ignition switch.2. Disconnect the earth lead from the support with steering shafts.3. Remove the electrical wiring coiled retaining band.
1. Unscrew the nut (1a), and remove the clip (1b) and lever (1c) of the steering wheel adjuster.
1. Unscrew the bolt securing the support with steering shafts.
1. Remove the support with steering shafts.
Refitting ( Removing ) Refit in its seating the support with steering shafts.1. Tighten the bolt securing the support with steering shafts to the specified torque.
1. Place the stering wheel adjustment device (1a) with clip (1b) back in its housing then tighten with the nut (1c) to the specified torque.
Place the electrical wiring coiled retaining band back in its housing.Connect the earth lead to the support with steering shafts.Connect the electrical connections for the ignition switch.Fit the electronic key aerial back on the ignition switch block.Secure the electronic key aerial wiring using the band.Tighten the bolt securing the trim on the support with steering shafts.Place the steering column back in its housing and secure using the bolts.Connect the electrical connections to the steering column.Place the steering wheel back in its housing and secure with the nut by tightening to recommended torque, then fit the rubber protector.

Refit the clutch pedal switch in its housingPlace the fuse access flap back in its housing then secure the link with the bolt.Close the fuse access flap and secure with the nut.Place the driver side under-facia wiring back in its seat then secure with the bolts and plastic pin.Place the steering column half cases back in their housings, secure the electrical connection from the coiled cable to the lower half case, then secure the halfcase with the bolts. - 5580C18  air bag module - r+r
