3308553 - 5580A cruise control system (Automatic transmission)

DESCRIPTION

This is an electronic system managed by the EDC-15C injection control unit which allows the cruising speed set by the driver to be automatically maintained. The control unit implements the speed control by controlling the quantity of fuel injected. The cruise control control lever is integrated in the direction indicators control lever on the steering column switch unit.

The control consists of:

  • a ring nut switch (1)
  • a SET ring nut (2) with a memorizing function, speed increase (set +) and speed decrease (set -)
  • a RECALL button (3) for the speed memorized.

DESCRIPTION

To activate the operation of the cruise control:

  • turn the ring nut switch to the ON position
  • let the vehicle reach the desired speed (> 30 kph)
  • turn the SET ring nut towards the (+) or (-) sign
  • release the accelerator pedal.
The cruise control can operate in the entire permissible engine speed range for both versions with automatic transmission or manual gearboxes.

The cruise control does not intervene:

  • in 1st speed or reverse where there is a manual gearbox
  • in P, N or R where there is automatic transmission
  • below 30 kph.
Turning the ring nut switch to the OFF position cancels any speed previously set.A warning light in the control unit, activated by the control unit, indicates whether or not the system is operating.
For safety reasons, the A.S.R. (Anti-Slip Regulation) function, has priority over the cruise control.
When the operatio of the A.S.R. has ceased, the cruise control function is automatically reactivated at the speed set

Manual disengagement of the cruise control

The driver can disable the cruise control by:

  • turning the switch to the OFF position
  • switching off the engine
  • operating the brake or clutch pedal (the last speed is memorized and can be recalled by pressing the RECALL button)
  • vehicle speed below 30 kph (the last butterfly angle and speed are memorized and can be recalled by pressing the RECALL button)
  • operating the gear selector lever without using the clutch
  • simultaneously operating the "SET +" and "RECALL" buttons or "SET -" and "RECALL".

Automatic disengagement of the cruise control

The system automatically switches off the cruise control if there is:

  • acceleration due to a steep descent
  • deceleration due to a steep incline
  • number of revs above or below the preset limit.

The system automatically switches off the cruise control in the following failure conditions:

  • accelerator pedal potentiometer
  • clutch switch
  • brake switch
  • injection/ignition control unit
  • engine rpm sensor
  • cam angle sensor
  • diesel pressure sensor
  • pressure monitor
  • Fuel pressure regulator
  • vehicle speed
  • condenser voltage
  • injector operation.
