3308768 - PRECAUTIONS

The engine compartment contains many moving parts, components at high temperatures and high tension leads that could constitute a serious danger to an inexperienced mechanic.

The following precautions must be carefully observed when carrying out maintenance operations:

  • Be careful of the radiator fan. It could start working automatically as a result of the temperature of the coolant.
  • Do not smoke or used naked flames.
  • Always keep a fire extinguisher to hand.
  • Do not use the jack that comes with the vehicle for lifting it to carry out checks underneath it.
The jack that comes with the vehicle should only be used when changing a wheel. For any other requirements, the vehicle should be raised by other means.
Take care of scarves, ties or other loose items of clothing: they could be caught up in the moving components.
In the case of checking or maintenance operations in the engine compartment, take special care not to bang your head on the edge of the bonnet lid.
Never smoke whilst carrying out operations in the engine compartment: there could be inflammable vapours and gases present causing a fire risk.
If the vehicle is used frequently for towing a trailer, the interval between services should be reduced.
Take care not to confuse the various fluids during topping up operations: they are all incompatible with one another and could seriously damage the vehicle.
