Snow chains can only be fitted on wheels with 6.5J x 16' rims and 205/55 R16 tyres.
Not only must the specified sizes be adhered to, but to ensure safe driving it is essential that the vehicle be fitted with tyres of the same make and model on all four wheels.
Unidirectional tyres have arrows on the side which indicate the direction of rotation. If a wheel is replaced (e.g. after a puncture), the direction of the arrows on the spare wheel's tyre maynot coincide with the direction of rotation of the wheel to be replaced. Even in these conditions the tyre retains its characteristics in terms of safety. However, it is advisable to have the wheel repaired and refitted as soon as possible, as the best performance is achieved when the direction of rotation of all the tyres is consistent with that indicated by the arrows.
