3315762 - E7030 AIRBAG - Functional description (Air Bag laterale, Euro 3)

Functional description

The airbag system control unit M60 is supplied with power when the ignition switch is turned on (INT/A) at pin 2 by a line protected by fuse F2 in junction unit B1. Pin 1 of connector B is connected to the special earth C50.

When frontal impact of a certain severity (depending on the software setting) is detected, the control unit sends control signals to set off the modules:

  • to driver's Air Bag Q9, via the steering wheel clockspring Q10 (from pins 21 and 22 of connector B):
  • to the passenger airbag Q11 (from pins 23 and 24 of connector B).
  • to the driver's pretensioner Q20 (from pins 13 and 14 of connector A) and the passenger pretensioner Q21 (from pins 15 and 16 of connector A).
Pin 7 connector B is connected to the passenger Air Bag disabling switch H75. The side impact detection sensors K66 (driver's side) and K67 (passenger side) send signals to pins 1, 2, 3 and 4 respectively of connector B of the control unit M60 .

When side impact of a certain severity (dependent on the software setting) is detected, the control unit sends control signals to set off the modules:

  • to the driver's side Air Bag Q30 (from pins 21 and 22 of connector A).
  • to the passenger side Air Bag Q31 (from pins 23 and 24 connector A);
Both pins 4 of devices Q30 and Q31 are connected to earth C50. When the system self-diagnostic function detects a fault or an impact is detected, control unit M60 sends a signal -from pin 10 of connector B - to the Air Bag fault warning light located in the instrument panel E50, pin 9 of connector C. Pin 9 of M60 sends a signal to the passenger sidebag disablement warning light, again located on instrument panel E50 - pin 16 of connector C. These signals are earthed; Instrument E50 is ignition-activated (INT/A) - pin 15 of connector A - from a line protected by fuse F1 of junction unit B1.Both warning lights are smart type; in other words, an inner control circuit causes the warning light to light up even if the connection is broken or if the circuit connecting warning light and control unit is short-circuited to earth. Pin 3 of control unit M60 is connected to pin 3 of multiple test connector R10.
