169000378 - Z099 PASSENGER''S SIDE FRONT AIRBAG FAILURE

When applying this procedure, always consider the following:

  • Measurements cannot be carried out on the airbag wiring.
  • Begin testing the system with the vehicle appliances still connected.
  • The fault must be "Present" or "Present Intermittently" and not "Intermittent". In the event of an Intermittent fault, the Procedure is not applicable. Check the line where the fault was reported carefully.
  • Not all the simulation sensors are available (e.g. side impact sensors).
The airbag fault warning light is controlled by a dedicated connection to the airbag control unit Instrument Panel Node.
The airbag wiring is a safety component. If faults occur in the wires or connectors, all the wiring must be replaced.
1ELECTRICAL CONNECTION CHECKAll OKProblems encounteredOperation
Turn the key to OFF.Check the connector on the control unit is correctly connected    See E7030 AIRBAGMove on to Step 2The connector is not correctly connectedReconnect the connector correctly    See E7030 AIRBAGClear the errors using the diagnostic tester and proceed to step 8
2CHECK THE PRESENCE OF THE PASSENGER AIRBAGAll OKProblems encounteredOperation
Check the vehicle is equipped with an airbag on the passenger sideMove on to Step 4The vehicle is not equipped with an airbag on the passenger sideMove on to Step 3
3CHECK THE PASSENGER SIDE WIRINGAll OKProblems encounteredOperation
Check whether the wiring (on the passenger side) terminates in a dummy resistance    See E7030 AIRBAGMove on to Step 6The wiring (on the passenger side) does not end in a dummy resistance visible from outside: the dummy resistance is inside the wiringReplace the wiring    Op. 5505C34 INTERGRATED INSTRUMENT UNDER FACIA FRONT AIR BAG WIRING - R RClear the errors using the diagnostic tester and proceed to step 8
4CHECK THE PASSENGER AIR BAGAll OKProblems encounteredOperation
Disconnect the passenger side charge from the steering wheel and connect the dummy resistance in its place.    See E7030 AIRBAGTurn the key ON and activate communication.Check whether the fault in the passenger side front airbag has become intermittentMove on to Step 5The fault is still PresentTurn the key to OFF.Replace the wiring    Op. 5505C34 INTERGRATED INSTRUMENT UNDER FACIA FRONT AIR BAG WIRING - R RClear the errors using the diagnostic tester and proceed to step 8
5REPLACE THE PASSENGER AIR BAGAll OKProblems encounteredOperation
