2751097 - K80 AIRBAG FAILURE WARNING LIGHT ON

To apply this procedure, the following must be borne in mind:

  • Measurements cannot be taken on the Air Bag wiring.
  • The system fault diagnosis is started leaving the vehicle charges connected.
  • The fault should be "Present" or "Present Intermittently" and not "Intermittent". If the fault is Intermittent then the Procedure is not applicable; proceed with an accurate check on the line where the fault was signalled.
  • Not all the simulation sensors are available (e.g. side impact sensors).
The Air Bag failure warning light is controlled directly through a dedicatec connection to the "Instrument Panel Node" from the Air Bag Control Unit.
The Air Bag wiring is a safety component. If there are problems with the cables or the connectors then the wiring should be replaced in one piece.
1ELECTRICAL CONNECTION CHECKAll OKProblems encounteredOperation
Check that the Air Bag wiring connected is connected to the control unitMove on to Step 2The wiring connector is not connected to the control unitWith the ignition OFF, connect the connector to the control unit then turn the ignition key ON and check that the fault has disappeared
2CHECK USING DIAGNOSTIC EQUIPMENTAll OKProblems encounteredOperation
Connect the diagnostic equipment and activate the dialogueMove on to Step 3The diagnostic dialogue is not activatedProceed as instructed in the    See table Z095 DIAGNOSIS CANNOT BE STARTED ON THE AIRBAG CONTROL UNIT
3CHECK USING DIAGNOSTIC EQUIPMENTAll OKProblems encounteredOperation
Carry out the fault diagnosis of the Air Bag system until one or more errors of the Present type are notified by the control unitMove on to Step 5The diagnostic equipment signals one or more Intermittent type errorsCheck that the contact for the wiring connector pins is not loose (pins unstable in their housing, oxidized or distorted)    See E7030 AIRBAGStress the Air Bag wiring (including any intermediate wiring and connectors between the control unit and the component) and move on to Step 4
4CHECK USING DIAGNOSTIC EQUIPMENTAll OKProblems encounteredOperation
Check whether the Intermittent type errors have become Present type errorsMove on to Step 5The Intermittent type errors have remained the Intermittent typeDelete the errors and move on to Step 6
5ERRORS IN CONTROL UNIT CHECKAll OKProblems encounteredOperation
Check which Present type error is communicated

  • One or more of the following errors is present "D602 - Bus off" and/or "9001 - Control unit broken"
  • Error "90F2 - Air Bag and pretensioner impact data" present
  • Error "90F21- Pretensioner impact data" present
  • One or more of the following errors present "90F3 - Driver's Air Bag impact data" and/or "90F4 - Passenger Air Bag impact data".
  • One or more of the following errors present "9008 - Driver's Air Bag resistance 1st level" and/or "901B - Driver's Air Bag resistance 2nd level"
  • One or more of the following errors present "9009 - Passenger Air Bag resistance 1st level" and/or "900A - Passenger Air Bag resistance 2nd level"
  • One or more of the following errors present "900B - Driver's pretensioner resistance" and/or "900C - Passenger pretensioner resistance".
  • Error "9002 - Battery voltage" present
  • Error "9014 - Passenger Air Bag disabling switch" present
  • One or more of the following errors present "900E - Driver's Air Bag resistance" and/or "900F - Passenger Air Bag resistance".
  • One or more of the following errors present "9015 - Driver's front side impact 1st sensor" and/or "9017 - Passenger front side impact 1st sensor"
  • Error "9004 - Connection to ECU container earth" present
