2752983 - 5550A10 stalk unit assembly - r+r

Before working on the Air Bag system, it is essential to carry out the following preliminary operations: (1) turn the ignition off and remove the key; (2) disconnect the battery terminals and insulate them; (3) wait at least 10 minutes before proceeding.
FOLLOW ALL THE RECOMMENDED SAFETY RULES (see assembly 5508C - AIR BAG SYSTEM).
Removing ( Refitting )  - 5580C18  air bag module - r+r
Before removing the steering wheel, position the wheels as parallel as possible to the car's longitudinal axis.
 - 4110A10  steering wheel - r+r for replacement or checks - 7040A26  steering column trim - r+r1. Disconnect the electrical connections.

2. Open the band (2a) and release the wiring (2b).
1. Slacken the bolt on the sealing collar.Rotate the steering column switch unit slightly in both directions to release it from the centring lug on the steering column.2. Remove the steering column switch complete with clock spring.
The clock spring is fitted with a device which automatically stops its rotation when it is removed. Avoid forcing its rotation.
If the stalk unit is reused, it is advisable to secure the two plates in an appropriate manner, to avoid them rotating accidentally.
Refitting ( Removing ) Check that the steering column switch unit is not damaged and, if necessary, conduct an electrical test on it. Fit the steering column switch complete with clock spring on the steering column.Connect the electrical connections.

Tighten the bolt on the sealing collar. - 7040A26  steering column trim - r+r - 4110A10  steering wheel - r+r for replacement or checks - 5580C18  air bag module - r+rConnect the battery terminals.Check the operation of the Air Bag system using the Examiner or other diagnostic equipment.
