Removing ( Refitting ) 1. Remove the tool.

Remove the hydraulic tappets from their housings.Place the camshaft housing in the vice.1. Undo the bolts (1a) and remove the camshaft front seal (1b).
1. Undo nuts (1a) and remove the camshaft support (1b) complete with gasket.
1. Remove the camshaft protective plugs on the cylinder head extension.2. Remove the camshaft timing tools.
The camshaft timing adjustment tools are also used for leverage when unscrewing/tightening rear gear bolts.

3. Undo the bolts (3a) and remove the camshaft idler gears (3b).Remove the camshaft timing tools.

1. Withdraw the camshafts.Remove the exhaust side camshaft oil seal.
1. Undo the tapered plugs.
Refitting ( Removing ) Check the condition of the tapered plugs and, if necessary, replace them.If the old ones are refitted, replace the seals.Refit the tapered plugs and tighten to the specified torque.

The surfaces of the cams and the bearings should not show signs of wear, scoring or seizing. If this is not the case, replace the camshafts.Place the camshafts back in their housings.1. Remove the camshaft timing tools.

Refit the camshaft mount with gasket and secure with nuts.Place the camshaft front seal back in its housing and secure it with bolts.1. Check that the exhaust side camshaft end float is within specified values.
If the exhaust side camshaft end float is not within specified values, replace the cylinder head extension.
