Before removing and refitting the Air Bag module, the following preliminary operations must be carried out.Place the ignition key in the OFF position and extract it;Disconnect the battery leads and insulate.Wait for 10 minutes before continuing.
FOLLOW ALL THE RECOMMENDED SAFETY RULES (see 5580C - Precautions).
Removing ( Refitting ) Straighten the vehicle front wheels.1. Take two cylindrical bars (1a) (5-6 mm diameter) and insert into holes (1b) on the steering wheel. Push the bars until air bag module clips (1c) are pressed and can be disengaged from the steering wheel retainers (1d). Move the Air Bag module (1e) disengaging the retainers (1f) from their seatings (1g).2. Disconnect electrical connections (2a), (2b) and (2c).

3. Recover the Air Bag module.Place the Air Bag module in the special cupboard, resting it on a free surface with the bag facing upwards.
Refitting ( Removing ) Observe the following precaution.
Handle the Air Bag module with extreme caution. Ensure the battery is disconnected.
If a new module is being fitted, attach the labels. Detach the removable part of the adhesive label from the new module and put it in a specific file recording the vehicle details (model, registration data, chassis no.) and the serial no. of the old module. This file should be kept for future checks. A new label is supplied together with the module, to be stuck on top of the existing one. However, it should first be perforated to indicate the month and 14 years after the year when the module is fitted (e.g. 2017 will correspond to 2003).Position the air bag and connect the electrical connectors.Press the Air Bag module into its seating, checking that the clips fit correctly into the retainers.Connect the battery.Using the Examiner, check that the system has not picked up errors during the operation.
