184001988 - E2530 INSTRUMENT LIGHTING - DESCRIPTION

Description

The car is equipped with numerous light sources for optimal lighting of interior instruments and controls.Some of these are lit with the ignition ON (INT), others with the side lights on, others are dimmable in accordance with a rheostat-controlled adjustment strategy managed by the Body Computer.

With the ignition ON (INT) enablement and side light command signals, the Body Computer manages the lighting of:

  • cigar lighter;
  • climate control system controls (excluding the automatic air conditioning);
  • radio phone preparation;

The Body Computer manages (directly and via the door and boot node control units) the dimmed lighting of:

  • instrument panel display;
  • switches sin the doors;
  • panel on the left of the steering wheel;
  • controls in the centre of the dashboard;
  • climate control system controls;
  • radio display.
The brightness can be adjusted to different levels using two buttons located in the panel on the left hand side: there are 8 different possible settings. (from 30% to 100% maximum)The level set by pressing the "MODE", "MODE +" and "MODE -" buttons is shown in the instrument panel; the value set is also memorized and used later on.The level of brightness is also supplied via the CAN to the radio and climate control system control unit nodes to dim the back-lighting of the displays: going from maximum brightness (daytime) to dimmed lighting (nightime) this logic also regulates the brightness of the control buttons.
