184002107 - E3080 HEADLIGHT ALIGNMENT ADJUSTMENT - DESCRIPTION
Description
The adjustment of the headlamp light beam according to the load is carried out by means of a special device (located inside the front light cluster) which tilts it appropriately, lowering the light beam if the vehicle is heavily laden and raising it if the load lessens.Two buttons, located in the controls to the left of the steering wheel, allow the adjustment of the headlamps in 4 vertical positions from 0 to 3:
- position 0: one or two persons in the front seats, full fuel tank, fully equipped (vehicle in running order);
- position 1: five persons;
- position 2: five persons with full luggage compartment (about 50 kg);
- position 3: driver and 300 kg load, all stowed in the luggage compartment (full load);
These 4 positions are achieved using the "+" (the light beams is raised) and "-" (the light beam is lowered) buttons.The value set is memorized and shown on the instrument panel display; when the dipped headlamps are switched off, the movement is disabled and the current position for the lamp parabolas is maintained; when the dipped headlamps are turned back on, the "headlamp alignment correction" signal is lit up in the display with the number of the last position memorized.This control logic described above is managed directly by the instrument panel node.The device is enabled only with the dipped beams on.In the case of a failure, the system positions the headlamps so that oncoming vehicles are not dazzled.The relay which controls the switching on of the dipped headlamps See E2011 DIPPED HEADLAMPSalso supplies the adjustment motors inside the headlamps; this relay for switching the dipped headlamps on is managed by the Body Computer: relay energizing is activated by enablement signals with key in the ON position (INT) and by the steering column switch unit dipped headlamps control.
