184000445 - I06 MAIN BEAM HEADLAMPS NOT WORKING

With the dipped headlamps switched on (stable position) or in the flashing mode, when the stalk unit ring nut is operated, the main beam headlamps do not work
Results of the tests
1MAIN BEAM HEADLAMPS RELAY CHECK (POWER CIRCUIT)All OKProblems metOperation
Swap the main beam headlamps relay (in the engine compartment junction unit) with the horn relay (the third one in the same row) and check that the main beam headlamps are working properly after the swapContinue to Step 2The main beam headlamps still do not work even after the swapContinue to Step 3
2REPLACING HORN RELAY (POWER CIRCUIT)All OKProblems metOperation
Replace the horn relay (which, in reality, was the one for the main beam headlamps) and check that it is working properlyEnd of diagnosis
3MAIN BEAM HEADLAMPS POWER SUPPLY CHECK (POWER CIRCUIT)All OKProblems metOperation
Restore the two relays to their original positions.With the ignition ON, check that the main beam headlamps relay is correctly supplied by the battery.Then, connect to the supply for the relay from the Body Computer and check that the power supply is sent to the relay when the fog lights are activated.Also check that the electrical connections between the battery and the relay are not faulty See E2012 MAIN BEAM HEADLAMPS
Do not disconnect the relay
Continue to Step 4No power supply from the batteryRestore the correct power supply to the relay. If necessary, replace the faulty components (if a fuse is involved, search for the cause of the problem first)
Supply enablement not provided by the Body ComputerContinue to Step 4
Connections faultyRestore the correct connections. See E2012 MAIN BEAM HEADLAMPS
4CHECK WITH DIAGNOSTIC EQUIPMENTAll OKProblems metOperation
Connect the Examiner to the diagnostic socket

Check:

  • that there are no faults in the Body Computer
  • the operation of the lights through active diagnosis
Continue to Step 6Body Computer faultyContinue according to the instructions for the diagnostic equipment
Lights not activatedContinue to Step 5
5CHECK ON INDIVIDUAL LIGHTSAll OKProblems metOperation
Check the condition of individual bulbs and light units.Continue to Step 6Bulbs damagedReplace bulbs Op. 5540B32
Front right light cluster faultyRepair or replace front lights cluster Op. 5540B79
Front left light cluster faultyRepair or replace front lights cluster Op. 5540B78
6MAIN BEAM HEADLAMPS ELECTRICAL CIRCUIT CHECKAll OKProblems metOperation

Check, in order:

  • left and right main beam headlamp fuses
  • connection between stalk unit and Body Computer;
  • connection between Body Computer and engine compartment control unit;
  • connections between engine bay control unit and bulbs;
  • bulb earth See E2012 MAIN BEAM HEADLAMPS
Continue to Step 7Blown fusesReplace the fuses, then search for the cause of the problem
Connections not correctRestore the connections See E2012 MAIN BEAM HEADLAMPS
Lamps earth defectiveRestore the earth to the bulbs See E2012 MAIN BEAM HEADLAMPS
7CHECK ON STEERING COLUMN SWITCH UNITAll OKProblems metOperation
Check that the stalk unit is working properly See E2012 MAIN BEAM HEADLAMPS Continue to Step 8Stalk unit faultyReplace the stalk unit Op. 5550A12
8CHECK ON CORRECT OPERATIONAll OKProblems metOperation
Check that the fault is no longer presentEnd of diagnosisFault persistsReplace the Body Computer Op. 5505A32
