184000584 - S26 REAR SUSPENSION NOISE (CREAK/SQUEAK/TICKING)

Whilst driving, especially on unmade roads, there is creaking coming from the rear suspension. This diagnosis can only be made after     See table S15 VEHICLE RUNNING NOISE . Carry out the latter first.
If the problem is only on one side, carry out the checks and any operations on the appropriate side only.
Results of the tests
0PRELIMINARY CHECKSAll OKProblems encounteredOperation
Having carried out the road test, see the Table S15 RUMOROSITA' in condizioni di marcia , there was a creaking noise from the rear.Continue depending on the circumstances in which the noise occursEnd of diagnosisThe noise occurs especially on unmade roads uphill, during acceleration or brakingMove on to Step 1 1
The noise also occurs on smooth, undulating roadsMove on to Step 4 1
1BUSHES CHECKAll OKProblems encounteredOperation
Check that there are no signs of rubbing or contact between the bushes and thrust washers See Test 4420DA Verifica gioco boccole sospensioni posteriori Move on to Step 2 1Signs of rubbing detectedLubricate the elements with silicon grease
The use of unsuitable lubricants can adversely affect the operation of the component
2DUST COVER CHECKAll OKProblems encounteredOperation
Check that the dust cover is not rubbing against the shock absorber casing, by moving it and applying pressure and releasing it above the shock absorber casingMove on to Step 3There is rubbing causing the ovalization of the dust coverReplace the shock absorber Op. 4420A30
3CHECKS UNDER THE FLOORAll OKProblems encounteredOperation
Position the vehicle on a two column lift and raise it.Check that there are no pipes, handbrake cable or heat shields under the floor that are producing noise. Also check that the handbrake bowden cables are correctly fitted in the track control arm housingsMove on to Step 4 1Pipes or heat shields incorrectly fastenedRenew the correct fastening
Handbrake cable noisyLubricate the handbrake cable
Handbrake bowden cables not correctly fastenedRenew the correct fastening
4END OF TRAVEL BUFFER CHECKAll OKProblems encounteredOperation
Check that the end of travel buffer for the rear spring is not faulty carrying out the See Test 4420AA Verifica tampone di fine corsa molle sospensioni posteriori Move on to Step 5 1Lower spring reaction mounting not correctly fitted causing absence/deterioration of plastic fixing lugs on the axleReplace the end of travel buffer
Buffer deterioratedReplace the end of travel buffer
5RUBBER MOUNTING CHECKAll OKProblems encounteredOperation
Check that the rubber mountings securing the shock absorber do not show signs of wear on account of rubbing. Check that the lower rubber mounting is not producing creaking, in order to carry out this check the shock absorber upper fastening must be removed and the shock absorber rotatedMove on to Step 6 1Signs of rubbing on the rubber mountingsLubricate the part with a layer of silicon grease
The use of unsuitable lubricants can adversely affect the operation of the component
Damage to the rubber mountingsReplace the shock absorber    Op. 4420A30 L/H OR R/H REAR SUSPENSION DAMPER (ONE) - R+R
Creaking of the lower rubber mountingLubricate with silicon grease, if the creaking persists, replace the shock absorber    Op. 4420A30 L/H OR R/H REAR SUSPENSION DAMPER (ONE) - R+R
6SPRING CHECKAll OKProblems encounteredOperation
Check that the spring shows no signs of wear
If the spring shows signs of abrasion, its mechanical properties could be weakened as a result of oxidation
End of diagnosisSpring wornReplace the shock absorber spring    Op. 4420A48 REAR SUSPENSION COIL SPRINGS- R R
Upper spring rubber seal deterioratedReplace the upper rubber seal
