184000711 - 5580HB CHECK OPERATION OF PARKING SENSOR SYSTEM

After having connected at least the Examiner negative supply lead to the vehicle earth and having switched it on, switch to Voltmeter mode and connect the multimeter lead (black probe) to the vehicle chassis.

Use the red volmeter probe to check for the following at the control unit junction box:

  • correct power supply, first positive and then negative
  • Enablement for towing.
Follow the instructions in the wiring diagrams [wiring diagram E3090] to check the power supply to the ultrasound sensors on the rear bumper. The voltage of some shared connections will be positive (battery voltage) and the voltage of other shared connections will be zero.Select 20 volt full scale deflection and 1 second on the Examiner, then press the Start button. The values that appear should be assessed with a 20% tolerance approx and the positive voltage must be similar to the following image.
The dashed line in the image above is determined by sensor activation.Position the red voltmeter probe alternately at the electrical signal output signal leads of the various sensors alternately.Press the Start button on the Examiner with the values selected previously. The image values that appear should be assessed with a tolerance of around 20% and should be similar to the following image.
If the electrical signal sent to the sensor control unit is different from the above image, the individual sensor is not operating correctly or the control unit input is defective.
