186002880 - E2021 BRAKE LIGHTS - DESCRIPTION (ESP)

Description

The vehicle brake lights are located at the rear in the side light clusters and in the special central third brake light, consisting of 10 separate bulbs. All three bulbs are operated each time the brake pedal is pressed via a switch on the actual pedal. The circuit is supplied with the key on MAR and protected by a fuse located in the junction unit. The switch fitted on the pedals consists of two contacts which supply two signals: the first N.A. type recognizes that the position of the brake pedal is different from the rest condition; the second N.C. type recognizes the position of the brake pedal in the rest condition. The N.A. switch information is used for the brake lights and also sent to the ABS which recognizes this situation and consequently imposes the control of the braking. The N.C. switch information is only used by the ABS with ESP.On versions which have a radio fitted, a switch with an interference filter is fitted on the brake pedal to prevent radio interference when the pedal is pressed.
