3026100 - Introduction - BRAKING SYSTEM

CONSTRUCTION FEATURES

This braking system consists of two independent cross-over hydraulic circuits (that affect one front and one rear wheel respectively, e.g. right front with left rear). This allows braking on both sides of the car if the braking circuit one one wheel is faulty, so that stability can be maintained. All versions are equipped with ventilated brake discs on the front wheels, except the 1.6 ECO which comes with solid discs all round. All versions are equipped with Bosch 5.7 A.B.S. anti-lock brakes with four active sensors and four separate channels, plus EBD function (electronic brakeforce distribution between front and rear wheels)  Characteristic of working principle 3340  A(B.S. ANTI-LOCK BRAKING SYSTEM .).The main feature of the active sensor is the fact that the signal is processed directly by the sensor instead of being sent to the ABS control unit so that the system can cut in immediately.

Further electronic systems are added on different versions. These include:

  • ASR, active slip regulation during acceleration
  • VDC, vehicle dynamic control of stability
To ensure a prompt response to brake pedal action, all versions are fitted with a power unit including a 10' LUCAS brake servo. The pedal unit mount is separate from the power unit and clutch and accelerator pedals are plastic (although the 2.0 Selespeed does not come with a clutch pedal). The brake pedal is steel in all cases.Handbrake configuration is conventional and features steel lever and links acting on the rear brake caliper mechanism.
