Rotate the crankshaft in its normal direction of rotation and fit the special pins for locking the camshafts.

1. Check that the locating dowel (1a) on the drive pulley is in position opposite the engine rpm sensor (1b).

1. Loosen the nut retaining the timing belt moving tensioner (1a) and release the timing belt (1b).

Refitting ( Removing

) 1. Undo the bolts (1a) fixing the spark plug plugs (1b) and remove them.2. Remove the spark plugs.3. Tighten the timing tools in the housing for the spark plugs for cylinders 1 and 2.

4. Rotate the crankshaft in its normal direction of rotation using small movements until the moving parts of the tools are aligned.When both tools positioned in the spark plug housings are in this condition, the engine pistons will be aligned, i.e. half-away along their effective strokes and the piston for cylinder 1 will be descending, i.e. in the inlet stroke.

Rotate the crankshaft proceeding gradually to prevent the tool pin being expelled by compression of the pistons.

1. Use the tool (1a) to loosen the bolt (1b) fixing the camshaft driven pulley.

1. Raise the lift and fit the timing belt (1a) proceeding in an anti-clockwise direction starting from the drive pulley (1b) until completion.

1. Use suitable round-nosed pliers to turn the automatic tensioner to the position of maximum tension, i.e. with the mobile reference (1a) located as shown in the figure. Then secure nut (1b) fastening the tensioner to the mount.

Lower the lift and remove the tools used previously for timing and locking the camshafts and for timing the crankshaft.

1. Use the tool (1a) to tighten the bolt (1b) fixing the camshaft driven pulley to torque.

Rotate the crankshaft throught two revolutions in its normal direction of rotation.1. Loosen the nut securing the tensioner and align the mobile pointer (1a) with the fixed reference (1b), holding the tensioner with the round-nosed pliers at all times in order not to release the tension of the belt tensioner too suddenly.2. Once both references are aligned, tighten nut securing the tensioner to the specified torque.

Rotate the crankshaft through two revolutions in its normal direction of rotation then reposition the tools for aligning the pistons and for timing the camshafts for a final check on the engine timing.

Tighten the spark plugs.
