192004641 - E6015 ADDITIONAL HEATER - DESCRIPTION (Webasto)

Description

The WEBASTO additional heater, activated by means of a specific remote control, heats the engine coolant, maintains the temperature and circulates it for a preset period, in cold weather, to make sure that when the engine is started up the engine and passenger compartment temperature conditions are optimum.

Completely independent of the operation of the engine, the additional heater makes it possible to:

  • heat the passenger compartment with the engine off;
  • defrost the windows;
  • heat the engine coolant and consequently the actual engine prior to starting.

The system consists of:

  • a diesel burner for heating the engine coolant with an exhaust silencer for the combustion gases;
  • a metering pump connected to the reservoir pipes for supplying the burner;
  • a control unit incorporated in the passenger compartment heating/ventilation unit that allows automatic operation;
  • an electronic control unit for controlling and adjusting the built-in burner;
  • a remote control.
After heater activation, the electronic control unit operates the liquid circulation pump and ignites the burner in accordance with a preset, controlled procedures.Circulation pump output is also managed by an electronic control unit to minimise the initial heating time.The additional heater is switched on and off using a special remote control (it has a maximum range of 600 metres in open spaces which is reduced if there are obstacles).The signal emitted by the remote control is received by a special aerial on the vehicle and transmitted to the heater control unit.The length of time the additional heater remains on is pre-set at thirty minutes after which the heater switches off (the length of time it remains on can be increased up to a maximum of sixty minutes; this is done by pressing both the remote control buttons simultaneously three times in quick succession).
to a lesser extent, the heater burns fuel like the engine, therefore the additional heater should never be switched on, even for short periods, in confined spaces unless extractor fans are fitted.
whilst the heater is operating with the engine switched off, it absorbs energy from the battery; the engine should therefore be left running for a while to make sure that the battery is properly recharged.
The system power supply line is protected by a special maxifuse and a shunt fuse.
