192005534 - S026 REAR SUSPENSION NOISE (CREAKING/SQUEAKING/TICKING)

Whilst driving, especially on unmade roads, creaking can be heard coming from the rear suspension. This fault diagnosis can only be carried out after     See table S015 VEHICLE RUNNING NOISE . Carry out the latter first.
If the problem is only on one side, carry out the checks and any necessary operations on the appropriate side only
Results of the tests

1MOVING ELEMENTS CHECKAll OKProblems metOperation
Check that the noise is not caused by the movement of the shock absorber upper buffer. It is located under the carpet in the luggage compartment, in the area of the wheel archEnd of diagnosisThe buffer is looseTighten the upper nut to torque so that the buffer no longer moves
2BUSH CHECKAll OKProblems metOperation
Check that there are no signs of rubbing or contact between the thrust washers and bushes See Test    4420DA Verifica gioco boccole sospensioni posterioriContinue to Step 3Signs of rubbingLubricate the elements with silicon grease
3DUST COVER CHECKAll OKProblems metOperation
Check that the dust cover is not rubbing against the shock absorber casing, by moving it pressing and releasing it above the shock absorber casingContinue to Step 4It is rubbingReplace the end of travel buffer

6MOUNTINGS CHECKAll OKProblems metOperation
Check that the mountings fastening the suspension to the bodyshell (at the shock absorber turrets) do not show signs of wear due to rubbing. The shock absorber has to be removed in order to check this Op.    4420A30 Continue to Step 7Signs of tearing/damage to the mountingsReplace the components making sure that they are correctly positioned
7SPRING CHECKAll OKProblems metOperation
Check that there are no signs of rubbing on the suspension spring at its supports. Also check that the spring does not show signs of wear
If the spring shows signs of abrasions, its mechanical properties could deteriorate as a result of oxidation
