Before removing and refitting the Air Bag module, the following preliminary operations must be carried out: (1) turn the ignition off ('STOP') and remove; (2) remove the battery compartment cover, disconnect the battery negative lead and insulate the leads; (3) wait 10 minutes before proceeding.
FOLLOW ALL THE RECOMMENDED SAFETY FULES (  See assembly 5580C   air bag system ).
Removing ( Refitting ) 1. Unscrew bolts (1a) securing air bag (1b).Move the airbag module aside.2. Use the appropriate device to release the connector safety clip.3. Disconnect the electrical connectors.

Place the Air Bag module in the special cupboard, resting it on a free surface with the bag facing upwards. Refitting ( Removing ) Observe the following precaution.
Handle the Air Bag module with extreme caution. Ensure the battery is disconnected.
If a new module is being fitted, attach the appropriate labels. Detach the removable part of the adhesive label from the new module and put it in a specific file recording the vehicle details (model, registration data, chassis no.) and the serial no. of the old module. This file should be kept for future checks. A new label is supplied together with the module to be stuck on top of the existing one. It must be perforated first by the month, 10 years after the year in which the module is fitted (e.g. for 2000, this will be 2010). Connect the driver side air bag electrical connectors.

Fit the connector safety clips.Place the Air Bag module back in its housing.Secure the air bag module by tightening the retaining nuts.Connect the battery negative terminal.Fit the battery compartment cover.Check the operation of the system using the Examiner or the other diagnostic equipment.
