Working on the automatic tensioner (1a), remove the air conditioning compressor drive belt (1b).
Refitting ( Removing ) 1. Fit the compressor drive belet, lift the automatic tensioner (1a), fit the belt on its pulley, then on the crankshaft pulley (1b), on the air conditioner compressor pulley (1c) and finally on the fixed tensioner (1d).Slowly release the tensioner.
Replace the belt with a new one, as POLY-V belts adapt to the transmission; changing these conditions means that a new belt has to be fitted.
Do not allow oil or solvents to come into contact with the belt, as these could affect the flexibility of the rubber, resulting in reduced grip. Also check that there are no cracks or cuts on the belt, otherwise it will have to be replaced.
The tensioning device is automatic: a preloaded spring adjusts the belt to the correct tension upon installation and automatically takes up any slack in the belt generated during normal operation.
