Remove the protective plugs for the camshaft in the front and rear of the camshaft housing.2. Rotate the crankshaft in its normal direction of rotation and fit the tool in the splining on the camshaft.

1. Check that the locating dowel (1a) on the drive pulley is in position opposite the engine rpm sensor (1b).

1. Loosen the nut retaining the timing belt moving tensioner (1a) and remove the timing belt (1b).

Refitting ( Removing

) 1. Remove the electrical connections for the spark plugs.2. Remove the spark plugs.3. Tighten the tool in the housing for the spark plugs for cylinders 1 and 2.

4. Rotate the crankshaft in its normal direction of rotation using small movements until the surface (4a) on the moving section of the tool is not aligned with the fixed plane (4b) of the actual tool.When both tools positioned in the spark plug housings are in this condition, the engine pistons will be aligned, i.e. half-away along their effective strokes and the piston for cylinder 1 will be descending, i.e. in the inlet stroke.

Rotate the crankshaft proceeding gradually to prevent the tool pin being expelled by compression of the pistons.

1. Use the tool (1a) to loosen the bolt (1b) fixing the camshaft driven pulley.

1. Raise the vehicle and fit the timing belt (1a) proceeding in an anti-clockwise direction starting from the drive pulley (1b) until the belt revolution is completed.

Use a suitable tool so that the moving tensioner is in the maximum tension position.Lower the lift and remove the tools used previously for timing and locking the camshaft and for timing the crankshaft.

1. Use the tool (1a) to tighten the bolt (1b) fixing the camshaft driven pulley to torque.

Rotate the crankshaft throught two revolutions in its normal direction of rotation.1. Loosen the nut (1a) fixing the moving tensioner and, using a suitable tool, adjust the slot (1b) on the actual tensioner so that the moving reference (1c) coincides with the fixed reference (1d).

Rotate the crankshaft through two revolutions in its normal direction of rotation then reposition the tools for aligning the pistons and for timing the camshafts for a final check on the engine timing.

Tighten the spark plugs.
