Before working on the Air Bag system, follow the safety instructions for working on the system very carefully ( See assembly 5580C air bag system ).

- 4110A16 steering wheel - r r for replacement or checks for versions with airbag and manual gearbox with hydraulic selection

The clock spring is fitted with a device which automatically stops its rotation when it is removed. Avoid forcing its rotation.

- 7040A26 steering column trim - r+r - 5580C12 clock spring for air bag module on steering wheel r rSlacken the bolt fixing the stalk unit to the steering column.1. Disconnect the steering sensor electrical connector.

2. Disconnect the electrical connectors (2a), (2b), (2c) and (2d).

1. Disengage the stalk unit from the retaining lug using a suitable tool.2. Remove the stalk unit.

Refitting ( Removing

) Check that the steering column switch unit is not damaged and, if necessary, conduct an electrical test on it.

The stalk unit is supplied together with the clock spring. If it is replaced, the instructions below concerning the refitting of the clock spring on the stalk unit should not be followed.

Connect the electrical connections for the stalk unit, Cruise Control and steering angle sensor.

Secure the stalk unit to the steering column, tightening the fixing bolt (if it is being reused, remove the band fitted previously).1. If the stalk unit is being replaced with a new one, remove the clock spring safety tab.
