Removing ( Refitting ) 1. Remove the tool for retaining the hydraulic tappets.

Remove the hydraulic tappets from their housings.Check that the outer diameter of the hydraulic tappets is within the recommended values.

Check that the diameter of the tappet housings is within the recommended values.

Place the camshaft housing in the vice.1. Tighten the fixing bolts (1a) and remove the timing side protective cover (1b). 1. Undo the fixing nuts (1a) and remove the camshaft support, complete with coils (1b), flywheel side. 1. Undo the fixing bolts (1a) and remove the rear timing gears (1b).

The tools for timing the camshafts are also used to undo the bolts fixing the rear gears.

Remove the tools for timing and locking the camshafts.

1. Remove the camshafts. Refitting ( Removing ) 1. Undo the tapered plugs.

Check the condition of the plugs and, if necessary, replace them. If the old ones are refitted, replace the seals.

Tighten the tapered plugs.1. Check that the outer profile of the plugs is within the recommended values.

1. Check that the diameter of the bearings (1a) and the cam lift (1b) are within the recommended values.Take the measurements for both camshafts.

The surfaces of the cams and the bearings should not show signs of wear, grooves or seizing. If this is not the case, replace the camshafts.

Fit the camshafts.1. Fit the tools for locking and timing the camshafts.

1. Using the tool, fit the new oil seal on the exhaust side camshaft.

Fit the idler gears for the camshafts and tighten the fixing bolts to torque.

Fit the timing side camshaft cover and tighten the fixing bolts.1. Check that the camshaft end float is within the recommended values.

If the measurement is not within the recommended tolerance, replace the camshaft housing.

Remove the camshaft housing from the vice and fit the hydraulic tappets.1. Position the tool for retaining the hydraulic tappets.
