192004531 - E2530 INSTRUMENT LIGHTING - DESCRIPTION (Right hand drive)

Description

The car is equipped with numerous light sources for optimal lighting of interior instruments and controls.Some of these are lit with the ignition ON (INT), others with the side lights on, others are dimmable in accordance with a rheostat-controlled adjustment strategy managed by the Body Computer.

The following controls are lit when the ignition is turned to INT:

  • hazard warning lights control,
  • controls on front and rear courtesy lights
  • steering wheel controls
  • radio

With the ignition ON (INT) enablement and side light command signals, the Body Computer manages the lighting of:

  • ashtray and cigar lighter;
  • ashtray light

The Body Computer manages (directly and via the door and boot node control units) the dimmed lighting of:

  • the instrument panel and display.
  • switches on the door;
  • the left side of the panel;
  • the switch unit on the tunnel
  • climate control system controls;
The brightness can be adjusted to different levels using an external button located in the panel on the left hand side: there are 8 different possible settings.The level set by pressing the "MODE +" and "MODE -" buttons is shown in the instrument panel; the value set is also memorized and used later on.
the lighting brightness cannot however be reduced to zero.
The level of brightness is also supplied via the CAN to the radio (or integral radio-telephone-navigation system) and climate control system control unit nodes to dim the back-lighting of the displays: from maximum brightness (daytime) and dimmed lighting (night-time): the same strategy also regulates the control key lighting.
