STEPCHECK TO BE PERFORMEDRESOLUTION IF THE CHECK IS NOT OK
1Connect the diagnostic instrument in Voltmeter mode with the positive probe to Pin 1 and the negative earthed to Pin A4 of the steering lock control unit    See M089 STEERING LOCK CONTROL UNIT (NBS)the direct voltage reading should be 12 Volt.Restore wiring continuity    See E7065 ELECTRIC STEERING LOCK
2Insert a key in the ignition and turn to STOP.Connect the diagnostic tester in Voltmeter mode with the positive probe to control unit Pin A6    See M089 STEERING LOCK CONTROL UNIT (NBS)and negative earthed and read a battery voltage of approximately 12 Volts.Move on to Step 4Move on to Step 3
3Check for wiring continuity between Pin 12 of the ignition device    See H003 IGNITION DEVICEand control unit Pin A6    See M089 STEERING LOCK CONTROL UNIT (NBS)and repair if necessary    See E7065 ELECTRIC STEERING LOCKThe test can be considered overContinue as instructed in the    See Test 5520AA CHECK ON IGNITION SWITCH EFFICIENCY
4Connect the diagnostic tester in Voltmeter mode with the positive probe to control unit Pin B5    See M089 STEERING LOCK CONTROL UNIT (NBS)and negative earthed.Turn the ignition ON and check for a voltage of approximately 12 Volts.Move on to Step 6Continue as instructed in the    See Test 5520AA CHECK ON IGNITION SWITCH EFFICIENCY
5Check for wiring continuity between Pin 6 of the ignition device    See H003 IGNITION DEVICEand Pin B5 of the control unit [EL_M089] and repair if necessary    See E7065 ELECTRIC STEERING LOCKThe test can be considered overContinue as instructed in the    See Test 5520AA CHECK ON IGNITION SWITCH EFFICIENCY
6Disconnect the wiring connector from the control unit    See M089 STEERING LOCK CONTROL UNIT (NBS)Connect the diagnostic instrument in Ohmmeter mode with one probe between Pin A5 of the control unit    See M089 STEERING LOCK CONTROL UNIT (NBS)and the earth.Press the clutch pedal and check for an earth signal.Move on to Step 8
if no clutch signal is detected by the steering lock node, the car can still be started up by pressing the brake pedal
Move on to Step 7
7Check the continuity of the wiring between Pin 4 of the clutch pedal switch    See I031 CLUTCH PEDAL SWITCHand control unit Pin A5    See M089 STEERING LOCK CONTROL UNIT (NBS)and repair if necessary    See E7065 ELECTRIC STEERING LOCKIf necessary, replace the clutch pedal switch    Op. 1060G42 SWITCH ON CLUTCH PEDAL - R.R. 8Connect the diagnostic tester in Voltmeter mode with the positive probe to control unit Pin C5    See M089 STEERING LOCK CONTROL UNIT (NBS)and negative earthed.Press the clutch pedal.Turn the ignition key to START.Check for a battery voltage signal of 12 Volts.Move on to Step 10Move on to Step 9

10Turn the ignition key OFF.Connect the diagnostic tester in Voltmeter mode with the positive probe to control unit Pin C6    See M089 STEERING LOCK CONTROL UNIT (NBS)and negative earthed.Press the clutch pedal.Turn the ignition key to START.Check for a battery voltage signal of 12 Volts.Move on to Step 12Move on to Step 11

13Turn the ignition key to the ON position.Connect the tester in Voltmeter mode with the positive probe to control unit Pin A1    See M089 STEERING LOCK CONTROL UNIT (NBS)and the negative earthed and read a battery voltage of approximately 12 VoltsReplace the steering lock node    Op. 5580E17 STEERING LOCK - R.R
14Connect the diagnostic tester in Voltmeter mode with the positive probe to control unit Pin C8    See M089 STEERING LOCK CONTROL UNIT (NBS)and the negative earthed and read a battery voltage of approximately 12 VoltsReplace the steering lock node    Op. 5580E17 STEERING LOCK - R.R
15Connect the diagnostic tester in Voltmeter mode with the positive probe to control unit Pin C4    See M089 STEERING LOCK CONTROL UNIT (NBS)and negative earthed.Press the brake pedal and the battery voltage reading should be 0 Volts.Release the brake pedal and the voltage reading should be 12 volts.The test can be considered overMove on to Step 16
16Check for wiring continuity between brake pedal switch Pin 4    See I030 BRAKE PEDAL SWITCHand control unit Pin C4    See M089 STEERING LOCK CONTROL UNIT (NBS)and repair if necessary    See E7065 ELECTRIC STEERING LOCKThe test can be considered overCheck the power supply is correct to the brake pedal switch and restore if necessary.Move on to Step 17
